CMA Students Advocate for Education at Michigan Capitol During Lobby Day

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, students from CMA took part in Lobby Day at the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing. The trip gave students a chance to learn more about how state government works and why civic engagement matters. Students traveled together from school and joined others from across Michigan for a full day of learning and advocacy.

While at the Capitol, students toured both the House and Senate chambers, where laws are debated and passed. They also met with lobbyists and spoke with legislators about issues that affect their education, such as school funding, student resources, and opportunities for young people. These conversations helped students understand how their voices can make a difference in shaping policies that impact their daily lives.

A highlight of the day was meeting State Representative Donavan McKinney. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas, and hear directly from him about his work in government. The experience left many students feeling inspired and more confident about participating in their communities. CMA is proud of the students who represented their school and took an active role in democracy.
